How Do EA Processes Relate to the Software Development Process?

When someone with an IT background comes across TOGAF® for the first time, they assume that TOGAF is about IT.

This might mean that they see the architecture development process (ADM) as the same as a software development process; starting with some requirements, going through some design steps, and then moving through to implementation.

Assumptions like these can be confusing.
