What is PRINCE2?

PRINCE2 is a project management methodology owned by PeopleCert. It is a best practice framework offering tools and insight to help managers ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.

How does PRINCE2 work?

PRINCE2 projects have defined lifecycles and business products, corresponding activities which can achieve them, a specified amount of resources, and an organizational structure with strictly defined responsibilities. At the heart of every PRINCE2 project lies the ‘business case’, which must show that the benefits of the project are worth the effort and expenditure.

How valuable is a PRINCE2 certification?

According to Payscale, certified PRINCE2 users can earn between $53,000 and over $217,000 (or £26,000 and £107,000). Salaries depend on each candidate’s role, level of experience, and location.

How can PRINCE2 benefit businesses?

PRINCE2 offers proven best practices for project management. Users can enjoy greater control, clarity, and focus alongside improved stakeholder representation and risk management. The methodology also relies on the ‘business case’ of a project throughout to ensure that the project remains viable.

What do I need to know about the PRINCE2 exams?

The PRINCE2 Foundation exam is closed-book. It features 60 multiple-choice questions and lasts 60 minutes. The pass mark is 55%. After passing this exam, a student can then move on to the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam. This is an objective testing exam featuring 70 multiple-choice questions. The exam is open-book, lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes, and has a pass mark of 60%.

Who can use PRINCE2?

With project management being such an essential element of modern business, PRINCE2 can be used by virtually any organization in any industry. It is also extremely useful for both experienced and prospective project managers.

What does the PRINCE2 certification path look like?

PRINCE2 certification requirements are quite straightforward. Students start with the Foundation exam, after which they move on to PRINCE2 Practitioner. PRINCE2 Agile qualifications can also serve as prerequisites for PRINCE2 exams and vice versa.

Who are PeopleCert?

PeopleCert is the owner of and accrediting body for a number of best practice frameworks, including PRINCE2, PRINCE2 Agile, MSP, ITIL 4, and AgileSHIFT.

What other frameworks can complement PRINCE2?

PRINCE2 can be used with a number of other frameworks, including MSP and ITIL 4.

How long does PRINCE2 take to study?

Candidates who purchase either the Foundation or Practitioner course have access to our PRINCE2 course material for six months. Candidates who purchase the combined Foundation and Practitioner course have 12 months access. This is intended to give candidates enough time to structure their training around other commitments. Candidates who feel they are ready to sit an exam can do so at any time as long as they meet the prerequisites.

How long is PRINCE2 valid for?

All PeopleCert qualifications are valid for 3 years. After three years, candidate’s accredited status is changed to “expired.” All PeopleCert qualifications can be reactivated or extended for a further 3 years by taking any PeopleCert exam, including retaking PRINCE 2. For example, if a candidate’s PRINCE2 qualification expires, the candidate can take MSP to gain the MSP certification and reactivate their PRINCE2 certification.
