Module 1 introduces portfolio management and implementation. It also defines portfolio, program, and project management, along with the MoP frameworks’ portfolio management model, principles, cycles, and practices. Finally, it highlights the benefits of portfolio management and addresses several common misconceptions.
Module 2 looks at the context in which portfolio management operates and, specifically, the functions with which portfolio management must effectively coordinate its activities in pursuit of strategic objectives.
The module also explains key aspects of the relationships between portfolio management and other corporate functions and activities that share a focus on delivering strategic objectives.
Module 3 explores how portfolio management works by describing the five principles on which it is based.

Practitioners are able to effectively choose, prioritize, and control an organization’s projects and programs based on their knowledge of strategic goals and the organization’s capacity to deliver results. At the same time, they are able to balance this with ‘business as usual’, sustaining the business while helping it achieve significant change.
MoP offers principles, techniques, and practices for portfolio management, with a focus on: Choosing programs and projects that align with strategic objectives, executing programs and projects in a way that maximizes customer and stakeholder value, and driving change initiatives while still managing ‘business-as-usual’ activities.
MoP practitioners are experts at ensuring change initiatives are targeted, efficient, and cost-effective. They can also engage with stakeholders to ensure they understand the benefits of portfolio management. There are no prerequisites for sitting the MoP Foundation exam. However, candidates must pass this exam before they can sit the MoP Practitioner examination.
The MoP Foundation exam features 50 multiple-choice questions. Candidates have 40 minutes to complete the exam and must answer at least 25 (50%) questions correctly to pass.
The MoP Practitioner exam features four questions with 20 marks available per question. Candidates have 180 minutes (three hours) to complete the exam and must score at least 40 marks (50%) to pass.
Candidates start with MoP Foundation. This syllabus takes candidates through the building blocks of the MoP framework and equips them with the knowledge and practices to effectively contribute to portfolio management teams.
Passing the Foundation exam allows candidates to sit the MoP Practitioner exam. This focuses on applying MoP’s guidance in practice, with successful candidates knowing how to effectively oversee portfolio management teams and initiatives.
