What Has Made PRINCE2 Project Management So Popular?

PRINCE2 was originally released in 1996 and since that time a wide range of other Project Management methodologies have emerged. But why does PRINCE2 accreditation remain so popular in the face of competition?

Here are our Top 5 Reasons for why PRINCE 6th Edition remains a hit:

  1. It’s already an industry standard

    • Although other accreditations are gaining acceptance, the vast majority of job adverts use PRINCE2 as a shorthand for ‘accredited project manager’. As a consequence, it’s the first search term recruiters will use to sort through a sea of CVs.
  2. It’s quick and low-cost

    • PRINCE2 accreditation can be gained in as little as 5 days, for under £1000. That’s a no-brainer in terms of return-on-investment.
  3. Quite simply, it works

    • PRINCE2 is a proven methodology which has already stood the test of time.
  4. It’s all about the branding

    • Prince2 has become functionally synonymous with project management. PRINCE2 is to project management as ‘Coke’ is to cola. To many people, it’s one and the same thing. Call it unfair, or a genius marketing tactic, but it looks like it’s here to stay.
  5. People aren’t even aware of the competition

    • Whilst it’s true that there are other accreditations and methodologies which have a lot to offer, such as PMI PMP, or APM APMP, these qualifications are, by and large, off the radar
